Baltaire Restaurant 9.0

The Butchered Burger

Baltaire beef blend with lettuce, tomato, hooks cheddar, house pickles, onions, chives, house sauce, and hand-cut frites with ketchup. $32 ($37 with bacon)

We arrived at Baltaire in Brentwood, CA a little after 5:30pm and sat in the lounge so that we could order from the bar menu. The burger is huge, probably a 1/3 pound patty, with a mountain of bacon (see photo). The perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned patty topped with an ample amount of lettuce and a big tomato slice made for really big messy bites. We had to switch from hands to fork and knife about half way through the experience. Great tasting beef but would sometimes get lost in the lettuce and tomato. Best bacon ever! It was the star of the show, sometimes outshining the beef. Next time, ordering without the lettuce and tomato.

I was not always a yoga teacher. I graduated from UCLA and worked for over 12 years in the corporate world, including 7 years at Verizon Wireless. In 2001, I sustained a shoulder injury in the gym. As an alternative to lifting weights, I decided to try yoga. After one class, I realized that yoga offered much more than just a great workout. I migrated out of the gym and into local yoga studios. Yoga became my primary training for body, mind, and spirit.

In my first year of practice, I studied a variety of different yoga styles. I discovered Anusara Yoga in 2003 and decided to dedicate myself to this heart-opening practice. Anusara Yoga blends a life-affirming Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment and a celebration of community. I started teaching yoga in 2006 and became a Certified Anusara Teacher in 2010.

I am also a ‘certified’ geek. I love science fiction, superheroes, comic books, video games, Star Wars, and Spider-Man. I am not a vegetarian. I don’t drive a Prius. I like burgers, whiskey, weight training, and climbing. I sometimes miss the corporate world. I am really just a regular guy, who loves to practice and teach yoga. I believe that there is a hero in all of us and yoga can unleash the full potential of the super spirit within! In my teaching, I strive to be creative and fun, helping students take their practices off of the mat and into their daily lives.
