The Oinkster 8.7

Bacon Crispinator with Belgian Fries

Grade-A Nebraska Angus beef topped with applewood-smoked bacon, American cheese, house-made chipotle ketchup, crispy fried onions, and mayonnaise. $14.75

We return to The Oinkster again and again. We know that we are going to get a really good burger and a great value. The Bacon Crispinator is very well-balanced. Every bite is full of all the flavors, none of which overpower the others. They don’t ask how you want it cooked. It always comes medium-well. The beef patty is perfectly charred and seasoned. There is plenty of tasty crispy bacon and the onions are delightful. Even the mayo and house ketchup are subtle flavors that are present but do not distract from the overall flavor. The bun is nothing special and neither is the cheese. We sometimes forget that it is a cheeseburger and the bun just holds the burger together. In the past, we remember this being a messy burger that you couldn’t put down. On this recent visit, we discovered that the burger was not dripping; it was pretty dry. But that did not take away from the experience. It actually allowed us to put the burger down between bites and enjoy the fries (which are honesty just okay).

I was not always a yoga teacher. I graduated from UCLA and worked for over 12 years in the corporate world, including 7 years at Verizon Wireless. In 2001, I sustained a shoulder injury in the gym. As an alternative to lifting weights, I decided to try yoga. After one class, I realized that yoga offered much more than just a great workout. I migrated out of the gym and into local yoga studios. Yoga became my primary training for body, mind, and spirit.

In my first year of practice, I studied a variety of different yoga styles. I discovered Anusara Yoga in 2003 and decided to dedicate myself to this heart-opening practice. Anusara Yoga blends a life-affirming Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment and a celebration of community. I started teaching yoga in 2006 and became a Certified Anusara Teacher in 2010.

I am also a ‘certified’ geek. I love science fiction, superheroes, comic books, video games, Star Wars, and Spider-Man. I am not a vegetarian. I don’t drive a Prius. I like burgers, whiskey, weight training, and climbing. I sometimes miss the corporate world. I am really just a regular guy, who loves to practice and teach yoga. I believe that there is a hero in all of us and yoga can unleash the full potential of the super spirit within! In my teaching, I strive to be creative and fun, helping students take their practices off of the mat and into their daily lives.
